Beauty of the rough
I bought a necklace of rough fluorite nuggets from Etsy a couple weeks ago. Here's a closeup of two of the nuggets against a background of sky.
I'm in love with the colors of the stones, but I also love the texture and surface of the unpolished nuggets. Many stones are more interesting to me in this raw kind of state than they are polished.
After I wear the necklace all day, the nuggets are warm through. They must heat up to my body temperature. Then when I hold the necklace in my hands to put it away, the chunks feel hot — or at least much warmer than my fingertips.
I have some rough, natural citrine pieces, as well as some prehnite chunks, and I hope to make them both into necklaces. Some of the prehnite chunks have smooth, ovoid facets. They look like minty dinosaur eggs.
